Badrush’Shariah, Sajjada Nashin (Hereditary Spiritual Custodian) Of Dargah Aala Hazrat Centre Of Ahle Sunnah Bareilly Shareef Mufti Muhammad Ahsan Raza Khan Qadri, widely known as Badrush Shariah, is a prominent Indian Sunni Islamic scholar associated with the Ahl-e-Sunnat (Barelvi) tradition. He serves as the Sajjada Nashin (hereditary spiritual custodian) of the Dargah of Imam Ahmad Raza Khan in Bareilly Sharif and is recognized as one of the leading scholars of the Razvi family.
Muhammad Ahsan Raza Khan Qadri was born on 7 March 1984 in Bareilly Sharif, Uttar Pradesh, India, into the illustrious Razvi family associated with Dargah Ala Hazrat. He is the noble son of Maulana Subhan Raza Khan (Subhani Miyan), who served as the Sajjada Nasheen of Dargah Ala Hazrat prior to him. Raised in a distinguished household renowned for its legacy of Islamic scholarship, spirituality, and service to the Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jama’ah, he inherited a rich tradition of religious leadership and devotion. Ahsan Raza Khan belongs to the distinguished Barelvi lineage, tracing his ancestry through several generations of Islamic scholars. His father, Subhan Raza Khan, was the son of Rehan Raza Khan,Rehan Raza Khan was the son of Muhammad Ibrahim Raza Khan and grandson of Hamid Raza Khan, making Ahsan Raza Khan a direct descendant in the fifth generation from Ahmad Raza Khan Barelvi (Ala Hazrat), the 19th-century founder of the Barelvi movement. Hamid Raza Khan himself was the eldest son of Ahmad Raza Khan Barelvi, establishing the unbroken chain of scholarly succession within the family.Raised in the historic residence tied to Dargah Ala Hazrat in Bareilly Sharif, Ahsan Raza Khan grew up in a scholarly Sunni Muslim household deeply immersed in the Hanafi school of jurisprudence, the Maturidi theological creed, and the Qadri Sufi order (tariqa).This environment, rooted in the traditions established by his ancestor Ahmad Raza Khan, emphasized non-political religious guidance and devotion to Sufi practices.
Mufti Ahsan Raza Khan was born into the family of Subhan Raza Khan, the then Sajjada Nasheen of Dargah Ala Hazrat, in Bareilly Sharif, Uttar Pradesh, where he spent his early years immersed in the spiritual and cultural environment of this historic city. As the elder son of the custodian of the shrine, his upbringing occurred in close proximity to Dargah Ala Hazrat, a prominent Sufi shrine and key center of Barelvi activity in Uttar Pradesh, the mausoleum of his ancestor Ahmad Raza Khan. Bareilly Sharif, known for its strong Sunni Muslim community and deep-rooted traditions in Hanafi jurisprudence and Qadri Sufism, provided a formative socio-religious milieu for Khan's childhood, shaped by the ongoing legacy of the Barelvi movement. This environment, centered around the Dargah's role as a hub for devotional practices and community gatherings, influenced his early worldview amid the vibrant Islamic heritage of the region.
Mufti Ahsan Raza Khan Qadri, as a distinguished member of the Razvi (Barelvi) family, received his foundational Islamic education at Madrasa Manzar-i-Islam, Bareilly Sharif, the renowned seminary established by his illustrious ancestor Imam Ahmad Raza Khan Barelvi (Ala Hazrat) in 1904. He subsequently pursued higher studies in Islamic sciences at Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt, one of the world’s most prestigious centers of Islamic learning. His academic training encompassed the core disciplines of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), Hadith, Tafsir, and Aqeedah, firmly rooted in the Sunni Hanafi tradition and the Qadri Sufi order. As a direct descendant of Imam Ahmad Raza Khan Barelvi and a qualified Mufti, he continues to uphold his family’s scholarly legacy and is authorized to issue Islamic legal opinions (fatwas) in accordance with the principles of Sunni Islamic jurisprudence.
Appointment as Sajjada Nasheen. In November 2014, the then Sajjada Nasheen of Dargah Aala Hazrat, Maulana Subhan Raza Khan (Subhani Miyan), who had served faithfully for over three decades, publicly appointed his son, Maulana Mufti Muhammad Ahsan Raza Khan Qadri, as his successor, in accordance with the hereditary tradition of the illustrious Razvi family. In December 2014, during the annual Urs-e-Razvi at Dargah Aala Hazrat in Bareilly Sharif, he formally assumed the responsibilities of Sajjada Nasheen. Since then, he has been leading the religious, spiritual, and educational activities of the Dargah, guiding devotees from across India and abroad. Under his guidance, the annual Urs-e-Razvi continues to be organized with devotion and discipline.
As the Sajjada Nasheen of Dargah Ala Hazrat since December 2014, Mufti Ahsan Raza Khan oversees the daily administrative operations of the shrine complex in Bareilly Sharif, ensuring its smooth functioning as a major center for Sunni Muslim pilgrims. This includes managing the maintenance of the historic site, coordinating logistics for the influx of visitors during peak pilgrimage seasons, and supervising staff responsible for the upkeep of facilities such as the mosque, library, and surrounding areas. A key aspect of his responsibilities involves the organization and execution of the annual Urs-e-Razvi celebrations, a multi-day event commemorating the death anniversary of Ahmad Raza Khan Barelvi, which attracts thousands of devotees from across India and abroad. Under his leadership, these events feature traditional rituals, qawwali performances, and scholarly gatherings, all while adhering to established protocols to maintain the spiritual sanctity of the occasion. He also facilitates visitor pilgrimages by arranging accommodations, security, and guidance services to ensure a respectful and orderly experience for pilgrims seeking blessings at the shrine.
